Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is My Favourite Books by My Favourite Authors, a topic suggested by… me! I didn’t realise how difficult this was going to be when I proposed it because I could have come up with many more ‘favourite’ authors. However the authors I’ve chosen are ones who when I learn they have a new book coming out it invariably gets added to my wishlist. And in some cases it wasn’t that easy to pick out just one book from their backlist as I’ve loved so many of them.
For those who know me well, it will come as no surprise they’re pretty much all historical fiction. Links from each title will take you to my review.
- Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers
- The Romantic by William Boyd
- The Winter Soldier by Daniel Mason
- Corpus by Rory Clements
- V2 by Robert Harris
- Old God’s Time by Sebastian Barry
- The Seventh Son by Sebastian Faulks
- The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne
- There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak
- Transcription by Kate Atkinson
Was it easy to come up with your list?

Thank you for the topic suggestion Cathy, though I did find it tough.
Thanks for sharing your #TTT

I’m curious about The Seventh Son.

I haven’t read many books by William Boyd, but The Romantic is definitely the best I’ve read so far. I think my favourite Robert Harris book is An Officer and a Spy and John Boyne probably A History of Loneliness. Great list!

I almost went with An Officer and a Spy actually but switched at the last minute because I read it so long ago it was hard to remember why I gave it 5 stars!

This was a good topic! I enjoyed making my post. The only authors I’ve read from your list are Elif Shafak (10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World) and Kate Atkinson (Life After Life).

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it because I’m aware some people found it really hard. If I’d had room to include Daphne du Maurier on my list I definitely would have chosen Rebecca too.

Fab list! How could I have forgotten Rory Clements and Robert Harris! 😂

We need Top Ten Twenty don’t we?

Robert Harris almost made my list! I’ve read all of his stuff.

I admit I also found it difficult to confine it to just ten.

I like John Boyne a lot, too. I am pretty sure I have missed reading a couple of his latest books, though.

I’ve been trying to find time to read more of his backlist but haven’t yet managed it.

William Boyd, Robert Harris and Rory Clements! Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! I keep hoping there will be another Sebastian Wolf book. I loved Munich Wolf.

I have good news for you then – Sebastian Wolff is back in Invitation From a Dictator, published in August. I have a NetGalley copy but haven’t yet got around to reading it.

It was definitely not easy to limit the list to only 10 favorite authors… but that’s a good issue to have I suppose :)

Absolutely. I suspect my list would change if I did it again in the future.

Top Ten Tuesday is good (or do I mean bad) for the TBR pile or wishlist.

Yes, I always add a few every Tuesday!

A lot harder than I expected. I feel bad for the authors I left out 😄.

While I’ve heard of some of these authors, I’ve not read any of their books. Though I have been curious about Kate Atkinson’s books.

If it’s any consoloation, I found it hard too and I suggested it!

Thanks for picking this topic! Although it was definitely harder than I expected. I loved There are Rivers in the Sky and Small Pleasures.

Yes, it was tough leaving out authors who I could have easily included.

This was fun to do although quite tricky! I loved that John Boyne book. I also had a Kate Atkinson and I think Transcription is about the only one of hers I haven’t read!

I haven’t read any of these, so I’ll have to check some of them out.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

Thinking about it in terms of series was a great way to approach it.

Interesting list. I usually enjoy historical fiction but I don’t think I’ve read any of those. Thanks for sharing – I’ll be back!

The same as you, I think my list might be different if I did the exercise again in the future. I had a lot of candidates for the final few places on my list.

The only one I’ve read from your list is There Are Rivers in the Sky which I did really love!

I think it’s the best one of hers I’ve read but I have quite a few on her backlist I still need to get to.

Thank you for the topic! It was a fun one! I don’t have a ton of favorite authors so I just expanded it to authors I like. It worked out okay, I think.

Thanks, I’m glad you found it fun. I know people found multiple ways of limiting their lists to just ten.

You’ve reminded me I really need to find time to read The Heart’s Invisible Furies!

Looking at other people’s lists I found tons of books I really need to find time to read, including ones already on my bookshelves, not to mention ones by the favourite authors I listed!

I read historical fiction, but only once in awhile. One thing I’ve noticed is how pretty all of these covers are.
