The last time I took part in a Classics Club Spin was way back in 2021 when I only had two books left on my list. Now that I’ve created my second Classics Club list I can join in again.
If you’re wondering how the spin works, read on:
Before 8th February, create a post listing twenty books that remain to be read on your Classics Club list. This is your spin list. On 8th February the folks at The Classics Club will post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your spin list by 29th March 2026.
My Spin List
I’ve got quite a few commitments in March so I’ve sidestepped the real chunksters on my list to give myself a fair chance.
- The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Stories by Edgar Allan Poe
- The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope
- The Hound of Death and Other Stories by Agatha Christie
- Victoria Four-Thirty by Cecil Roberts
- The Smiler with the Knife by Nicholas Blake
- The King’s General by Daphne du Maurier
- A Maigret Christmas and Other Stories by George Simenon
- The Birds and Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier
- A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie
- Beyond the Black Stump by Nevil Shute
- Cat Among the Pigeons by Agatha Christie
- Thunderball by Ian Fleming
- The Story of Esther Costello by Nicholas Montserrat
- The Red Rock Wilderness by Elspeth Huxley
- The Greengage Summer by Rumer Godden
- Good-bye, Mr. Chips by James Hilton
- Lord Hornblower by C. S. Forester
- Creatures of Circumstance by W. Somerset Maugham
- The Satanist by Denis Wheatley
- Stephen Morris by Nevil Shute
If this was your list, which book would you be hoping for?

I am entirely unfamiliar with 17 of these so I’d hope for a Christie 😄. Good luck with the spin. I hope it lands on something you’ll enjoy.

A Christie would be lovely!

What a great list! Of the ones I’ve read, I particularly loved The Prisoner of Zenda and both of the du Mauriers, but I think I’d be happy to get any of them. Good luck.

Yes, I’m quite hoping for the Prisoner of Zenda which means I probably won’t get it. We can commiserate with each other on Sunday if necessary!

I remember reading ‘Goodbye Mr Chips’ when I was very young, and enjoying it. But if this were my list I’d be hoping for ‘Lord Hornblower’. Love a bit of nautical fiction!

I’d be happy with either of those tbh

If you haven’t, don’t read the blurb for The King’s General–major spoiler. I loved this book. Also love the book and every film of Goodbye Mr Chips–even the cheesy musical with Peter O’Toole! I’m reading all of Nevil Shute–I’ve read Beyond the Black Stump but not the other one. Thunderball! Of course it is obligatory to watch Sean Connery after you read the book, right? Enjoy

I remember becoming tearful at the end of the 1939 adaptation of Goodbye Mr Chips starring Robert Donat. I think it’s partly due to his wife being called Katherine, so very similar to my own name.

Seeing Goodbye Mr Chips on your list has made me want to watch the lovely old B&W movie again!
But for now I will wish you one of the Nevil Shute books – a guaranteed good read.

Lovely list. It reminds me, I’ve been wanting to get a copy of Goodbye, Mr. Chips for ages. I enjoyed the films.
