Six on Saturday is a weekly meme originally hosted by The Propagator but now in the tender care of Jim at Garden Ruminations.
We still haven’t had any significant rain here in Berkshire which means continuing work with the watering can. There have been a few lovely warm – verging on hot – days but some very chilly nights which could still catch you out.

One – I spotted these two butterfiles (I think they’re Holly Blues) on the ivy in our mixed species hedge. ‘Mixed species’ being a posh term for a hawthorn hedge which is being gradually taken over by ivy, hazel and goodness knows what else.

Two – The first flower open on one of the clumps of geranium sanguineum scattered around the garden.

Three – The strawberry plants have started to flower so it will be time to initiate slug patrol.

Four – Always nice to spot one of a gardener’s little helpers.

Five – The ruffled flower of geum ‘Totally Tangerine’ bringing a pop of colour.

Six – Thyme ‘Silver Queen’ completely happy basking in the sun in the gravel garden.
