#SixOnSaturday – Six things happening in my garden this week

Six on Saturday is a weekly meme originally hosted by The Propagator but now in the tender care of Jim at Garden Ruminations.

We were promised rain overnight on Tuesday but unfortunately it bypassed us here in Berkshire. On a more positive note my order of spring bulbs and vegetable seeds for next year has arrived.

One – Do you think I’ve ordered enough bulbs?

Two – Geranium nodosum that looked like it had given up, although it’s supposed to be happy in dry shade, but has come back to life.

Three – The teasels are photobombing the Rudbeckia laciniata ‘Herbstsonne’ again. However, they do catch the autumn afternoon light beautifully.

Four – The fragrant flowers of Daphne × transatlantica ‘Eternal Fragrance’.

Five – I cut back the stems of Achillea millefolium several weeks ago and a few have recommenced producing flower heads.

Six – A shrub rose (variety unknown) growing amongst other shrubs in our front hedge and providing a final show of colour.

Do check out the posts of other participants by following the links in the comments section of Jim’s post. If you fancy taking part yourself but don’t know where to start, here’s the participant’s guide.

  1. That’s a lot of bulbs! I have a similar Daphne, but I’m told it’s not especially fragrant. I have no sense of smell, so it’s all lost on me, but I put one by the front door so people could enjoy it on the way in and out. It’s not working very well so far, but it’s a youngish plant, so perhaps next year it will have more abundant and fragrant flowers.

  2. I love this! My garden isn’t doing too much yet, though I do have a total of 25 little sprouts inside that will be transported in a couple months. All broccoli, lettuce, and cauliflower right now!

    1. I admire you for growing sprouts as I’ve had zero success with those in the past, or any brassicas come to that. I’m really reducing the range of veg I grow next year in case we get a similar dry summer. It’s just so much work keeping up with the watering and not worth the heartache when plants suffer! But I am going to experiment with growing cucumbers next year as I always like to try growing something I’ve not done before. If I produce any I’ll have to eat them all though because my husband hates them!
