Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Bookish Places I’ve Visited. I’ve been fortunate to have visited quite a few countries, especially on cruises, and I love when I come across books set in a place I’ve been to… or the other way around. Links from each title will take you to my review.
- Two Women in Rome by Elizabeth Buchan
- The Last Apartment in Istanbul by Defne Suman
- Island of Secrets by Patricia Wilson (Crete)
- Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon (Sicily)
- Venetian Vespers by John Banville
- Daughters of Naples by Diana Giovinazzo
- The Matchbox Girl by Alice Jolly (Vienna)
- Woman in Blue by Douglas Bruton (Rijksmuseum. Amsterdam)
- The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (Barcelona)
- House of Beauty by Melba Escobar, translated by Elizabeth Bryer (Colombia)

The cemetery of forgotten books series is why I want to go to Barcelona too! Fab list

I’ll be honest it was a bit scary. We went to Cartagena and our tour guide said to keep to close to him as we were walking through the streets. Perhaps he was just worried about someone getting lost but I’m not so sure…

I remember intentionally finding a book set in Alaska before going on my cruise a couple of years ago. It worked out perfectly that the book I borrowed from my library was written by someone from one of the ports we stopped in.

I’ve been to 5 of these places, but didn’t read the books you matched with them. Nice list, Cathy.

It is always fun to read about places you’ve been. It is also fun to visit a place you’ve read about! After reading a few of Colleen McCullough’s Masters of Rome books, I finally got the chance to go there, and my husband was amazed at how much I knew about the Forum!

I’ve been to Vienna, but it hardly counts since it was just an overnight layover. I definitely want to go back to Austria to actually experience the country. I haven’t been to any of the other places, although some of them are on my travel bucket list.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
