I love many of my fellow indie publishers in the Indie Press Network, some of whom you mention above. May I add: Renard, Heloise, Istros, Jantar, Sinoist, Bullaun, Bluemoose, Dead Ink and many more. And of course my own Corylus Books 😂😂

I initially included Bluemoose but realised I hadn’t read anything published by them for a long time, although I do have Leonard and Hungry Paul in my TBR pile.

I haven’t encountered any of these publishers once, but this mainly is due to the fact that when books are translated, they get released by a trad publisher, so I don’t pay attention to the original English one.

I must confess that I tend to think of self published as Indie rather than independent publishers.

I think both would qualify as ‘indie’. I did consider doing a list of self-published authors but they would have been rather more difficult to find amongst the books I’ve read.

I often struggle to know if a publisher is indie or if it’s part of a million imprints from a major publisher.

Yes, I did have to check quite carefully as some of the big publishing groups have swallowed up publishers that were formerly independent. For example, Head of Zeus who are now part of Bloomsbury, although Bloomsbury actually consider themselves an independent publisher according to their website!

I nearly put Little Spark on my list as well this week! I don’t think I’ve read anything published by Birlinn but I do have Benbecula on my TBR to read soon.

Benbecula is one of the books in Birlinn’s Darkland Tales series published under their imprint Polygon. The other one in the series I’ve read is Queen Macbeth by Val McDermid.

I’ve read several from all of these publishers, Faber and Faber is a particular favourite.

Great one to do this. Most of the Indie authors I read are not necessarily associated with Indie presses, so I am not aware of that many.

I could have done a whole list of self-published/indie authors but they would have been more difficult to find on Goodreads as I don’t categorise them separately.

I’ve heard of Faber and Faber, but that’s it from this list. Keegan is on my authors-to-try list, though. Actually, we’re reading one of her books for book club in a couple of months. I’m excited to give her a go.
