Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time but, not for the first time, I’m going off-piste with Books Set in Venice, although it’s a place I wish I could visit again.
Links will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads.
- Venetian Vespers by John Banville – a mysterious disappearance during an ill-fated honeymoon
- The Girl From Venice by Martin Cruz Smith – a romance in WW2 Venice
- The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier – on the island of Murano, home of Venice’s skilled glassmakers, time flows differently
- The Garden of Angels by David Hewson – secrets are uncovered in Nazi occupied Venice
- The Venetian Contract by Marina Fiorato – a ship steals unnoticed into 16th century Venice bearing a deadly cargo
- Death in Venice by Thomas Mann – an author visiting Venice becomes obsessed with a stunningly beautiful youth
- Don’t Look Now and Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier – the ill-fated holiday in Venice of a couple mourning the death of their young daughter
- The Instrumentalist by Harriet Constable – in 18th century Venice, eight-year-old orphan Anna Maria is determined to become a great violinist
- Venetian Blood by Christine Evelyn Volker – a woman travels to Venice to visit an old friend but finds herself accused of murder
- City of Masks by S. D. Sykes – in 14th century Venice, Oswald de Lacy is dragged into a murder investigation when he discovers the body of a man

I’ve only been to Venice once over 30 years ago (eek!). I was interrailing with a friend and we stayed there a couple of nights. Would love to go again.

That is a brilliant topic! Venice is such a atmospheric and mysterious setting for a book, and you’ve found a fantastic mix of historical, mystery, and classic titles. I have to say, seeing The Garden of Angels on your list makes me very happy, as David Hewson is one of my favourite authors, and I think that that’s one of his best books! Great choices! I can’t remember the last time I read a book set in Venice. It’s cool you thought of so many.

Definitely put Italy on your bucket list. I’ve been to Venice and Rome but still have Florence on mine.

This was a very interesting topic. I’d love to see Venice but they are overwhelmed with tourists.
