Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Authors (or books by authors) Who Live In My State/Country. As a way to whittle down the thousands and thousands of authors who live in the UK to just ten, I’ve selected British authors who’ve appeared over the years at my local literary festival, Henley Literary Festival. (This year’s festival takes place between 4th and 12th October.) In most cases I’ve read more than one book by the author but I’ve selected a single title for each of them. Links from the title will take you to my review.
- Robert Harris, author of Precipice (lives in Berkshire)
- Carol Klein, author of Hortobiography (lives in Devon)
- Sebastian Faulks, author of The Seventh Son (lives in London)
- James Naughtie, author of The Spy Across the Water (lives in Edinburgh & London)
- Olivia Ford, author of Mrs Quinn’s Rise to Fame (lives in London)
- Alan Johnson, author of Death on the Thames (lives in Yorkshire)
- Paterson Joseph, author of The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho (lives in London)
- Kate Mosse, author of The Map of Bones (lives in Sussex)
- Raynor Winn, author of The Salt Path (lives in Cornwall)
- Rory Clements, author of Munich Wolf (lives in Norfolk)

Good idea! And sounds like a great festival.

It is. Henley-on-Thames is a lovely location and the festival seems to get bigger every year. My only regret is they stopped holding events on one of the pleasure boats on the Thames.

Only heard of Kate Mosse and Raynor Winn, but haven’t read their books.

I can definitely recommend it.

I love how you narrowed down your list. I feel like living in the UK would make this week’s topic really hard as there are so many authors from there (both past and present).

Yes, I know some UK bloggers managed to find authors who live in their county but that must have have been very time-consuming. I rarely note where an author lives, or even their nationality!

Another of today’s participants shared writers attending an upcoming retreat. How fun! Mrs. Quinn’s Rise to Fame sounds so fun, Cathy. Thanks for sharing.

Good tweak of the topic! Precipice was my favorite novel last year and I loved Munich Wolf, too. I know of Sebastian Faulks but haven’t yet read anything by him. Nice work!

I’ve heard of a couple of these authors, but I haven’t read anything by them. Ford and Johnson both look like writers I would like. I’ll check them out.
Happy TTT!

What a great way to cut down that huge list, Cathy. It definitely sounds like a great Reading/Author/Book Festival. I have about 5 of these authors on my TBR shelf, but haven’t read them yet.

Yes, it’s a great book. Have you read the follow-up, The Wild Silence?

I started it, but couldn’t really get into it the way that I did this one.
