This post could just as easily be called ‘The One That Got Away’ because I really did start the month with the intention of participating in Reading Ireland Month hosted by Cathy at 746 Books. However, a combination of lack of time, poor planning and the call of my garden meant I didn’t manage to read the books by Irish authors I’d earmarked, such as Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon and Eden’s Shore by Oisín Fagan. Frustrating, especially as this would have given me a nice round number for this post.
Instead, here are some Irish authors whose books I have read. Links from each title will take you to my review.
- Donal Ryan – From a Low and Quiet Sea, The Spinning Heart, Heart, Be At Peace
- Patrick Holloway – The Language of Remembering
- Kevin Barry – The Heart in Winter
- Jamie Guiney – The Wooden Hill
- Simon Bourke – And The Birds Kept On Singing, A Place Without Pain
- Joseph O’Connor – Shadowplay, My Father’s House, The Ghosts of Rome
- Christine Dwyer Hickey – The Narrow Land
- Colm Tóibín – House of Names
- Niall Williams – This Is Happiness, Time of the Child
- Paul Lynch – Grace
- John Boyne – The Heart’s Invisible Furies, All the Broken Places, The Echo Chamber
- Sebastian Barry – Days Without End, A Thousand Moons, Old God’s Time
- Maggie O’Farrell – Hamnet, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox
- Claire Keegan – Small Things Like These, So Late in the Day
- Bernie McGill – The Watch House
- Lucy Caldwell – These Days
I was surprised how many I came up with and I’ve probably missed some who I didn’t know were Irish.
