Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Petty Reasons You’ve DNF’d a Book. I rarely DNF books and, if I do, I hope it’s never for petty reasons, so this week’s topic wasn’t for me. Instead I’ve revisited a previous post – Books on My Winter 2023-2024 To-Read List – to see whether plan turned into reality. Links from each title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads if they’re still unread.
- The Slowworm’s Song by Andrew Miller – Read and reviewed
- Pure by Andrew Miller – Still unread
- Back Trouble by Clare Chambers – Read and reviewed
- A Dry Spell by Clare Chambers – Still unread
- All Day at the Movies by Fiona Kidman – Read but not yet reviewed
- The Infinite Air by Fiona Kidman – Still unread
- Himself by Jess Kidd – Still unread
- A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain by Robert Olen Butler – Still unread
- The Storm We Made by Vanessa Chan – Read and reviewed
- Munich Wolf by Rory Clements – Read and reviewed
Actually, I’m quite pleased with this result: 5 read (of which 4 have been reviewed), 5 still unread. Do you ever look back at your To-Read lists?
Good job so far!

I’m scared to look back at my winter TBR. I have a feeling that you did much better than me.

I’ll be honest, I’m surprised I did that well!

I don’t think any reason someone dnf’s a book can be really petty. It is a personal thing.
You did well on your winter tbr! I always look back on my seasonal tbrs that I list in top ten tuesday. And track my monthly tbr’s in my reading journal.

I agree. I only ever DNF a book when it’s something fundamental I don’t like about it – it’s badly written, too gory or too slushy, for exampe.

5 out of 10 is pretty good! A Dry Spell looks so interesting, so I’ll be waiting for you to read and review that one! 😀

Yes, I started doing this a year ago, and have been working on the ones still to read from my Top Ten lists up to 3 years ago. I have not checked this past winter’s list though. I need to do that before I start working on my Top Ten Spring Reads. You did pretty good, Cathy.

Thanks. I’m pretty good at sticking to a reading list but tend to be over optimistic about how many I can get through

That looks about typical for one of my such lists! When I put it into a list a book risks becoming “assigned” like school homework and I lose interest lol

I don’t typically look back at previous TBRs to see if I read them. But I did a post earlier this month that was this exact topic. While I didn’t review everything I read, I did read quite a few of the books I had on my TBR.
