Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Books Set In a Place I’d Love to Visit but my choices are books set in cities you might want to visit, although not necessarily during the period in which some of the books are set! Links from the title will take you to my review.
Munich by Robert Harris
The Dublin Railway Murder by Thomas Morris
The Good Doctor of Warsaw by Elisabeth Gifford
Night Flight to Paris by David Gilman
Two Women in Rome by Elizabeth Buchan
The Lost Boy of Bologna by Francesca Scanacapra
The Cleaner of Chartres by Salley Vickers
The Phoenix of Florence by Phillip Kazan
The Night Train to Berlin by Melanie Hudson
The Secret Keeper of Jaipur by Alka Joshi

Not one for travel yourself, Cathy?
I’ve been to Rome and Florence. Both are fabulous city. Didn’t like Paris at all. But I’d rather spend my time in little villages than big cities.

I loved Rome especially the Borghese Gallery. I seem to remember a great gelato stall in the gardens. Quite a few people saying they favour villages over cities

Oh I love what you did here! This is very clever. I will have to take a look at a few of these Cities for sure. A gentleman in Moscow would have worked well here as well!

I have been to Munich, on a school History trip and it was a lovely city. I also really enjoyed Paris when I went with my family a few years back. I’d really love to go to so many of the other cities you mention though, Berlin, Florence, Dublin, Warsaw, but especially Rome!

Definitely recommend Rome but perhaps not at the hottest time of the year

I tend to avoid travelling during July and August anyway because it’s so much more expensive, so if I did go, it would probably be either in the Spring or the Autumn!

That would be the perfect time, for any city I would think

I agree; there are many places in books that would be amazing to see, just not necessarily when the story is set.

Great list, Cathy. I agree, I didn’t select many books because of the period they were set in, but I guess I could have made that condition.

How fun! I like how you did this list. The only city on the list I’ve visited is Paris. I’m not much of a city person, actually. I’ll take a quaint little village over a big, noisy metropolis any day.
Happy TTT!

Very good choices! You remind me that I need to find the audio of Munich before I watch Jeremy Irons in the movie. Also Two Women in Rome is on my TBR, but it may be a while since her last book I read didn’t do much for mel

I wanted to see the film when it first came out but it wasn’t showing in my area unfortunately.
