Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post. Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists. Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Ten Signs You’re A Book Lover.
- You never go anywhere without a book or access to one via an ereader or mobile device
- You love the smell of new books…and old ones, come to that
- You never get tired of looking at other people’s #shelfie pictures on Instagram
- Your Twitter feed is dominated by bookish news
- When visiting someone’s home, the first thing you do is look at what’s on their bookshelves (or even – horror – if they’ve got any)
- You simply can’t comprehend people who say they never read books
- You love to see what books other people are reading when travelling by bus or train, or in a coffee shop (not that many of us can do this at the moment!)
- You find yourself welcoming the cancellation of social engagements or bad weather as an excuse to pick up a book
- Your Goodreads To-Read shelf numbers in the hundreds, even thousands
- You experience a rush of excitement when you learn of a forthcoming book by a favourite author
Recognise any of these behaviours in yourself?
5,6 and 7 are definitely me – I’m obviously really nosy about what other people are reading!

Haha, I loved the ‘missed your stop because you were reading’. When I was travelling more by train I was always glad my local station was the last stop on the line. And wouldn’t you know, that station is Reading. How appropriate is that?

Completely relate to 6! I never know what to do when someone says they don’t read at all.

I don’t understand non-readers either.

I can totally identify with space for bookshelves are a priority. When my husband says we have too many books, I reply ‘No, we have too few bookshelves.’

Fab post! It’s so disappointed to visit a house with no bookshelves! xx

I just saw someone else say it was like a red flag for them! Funnily enough, during our ‘courtship’ my (now) husband and I used to test each other with book questions – “Who wrote…?” and the first present I ever bought him was The Oxford Companion to English Literature. He was still no good on the works of Graham Greene though 😁

Definitely agree with the difficulty of picking a single favourite book. Like asking a parent to pick their favourite child!

I’m always surprised when I go to someone’s house and there are NO BOOKS ANYWHERE! I feel like I’ve landed on another planet. Did you know there are people who own bookshelves but use them for things besides books? Horrors!
Happy TTT!

A lot of people put the smell of books. This is one thing I do not do, but all the rest are definitely me.
