Six on Saturday – My Gardening Week

Six on Saturday is a weekly meme originally hosted by The Propagator but now in the tender care of Jim at Garden Ruminations.

Another week where I haven’t been out in the garden much. I don’t even have the excuse of the dreadful weather some parts of the UK have been getting. And it’s still a challenge to find six things worthy of sharing. Let’s hope February will be kinder to us.

One – I spotted this flower on a hebe as I was taking vegetable scraps down to the compost bin.

Two – Vinca major growing under two of our apple trees plus the first signs of bluebells, sadly not English bluebells but their inferior Spanish cousins.

Three – A grass, possibly Hakonechloa macra ‘All Gold’, given to me by a neighbour who doesn’t do plant labels, illuminated briefly by the sun.

Four – First daffodil buds starting to form. Why is it only when you look back at the photograph you think, I really should have removed those weeds?

Five – Fern of some kind, a gift from the same neighbour hence no idea what type. ID suggestions welcomed.

Six – Contining the nascence theme, rhododendron buds forming. Not sure what variety but it has lilac flowers so possibly Rhododendron ‘Catawbiense Grandiflorum’. Not a gift from the same neighbour but an inheritance from the house’s previous owner. It’s currently the favourite perching place of our resident robin who yesterday was conducting aerial warfare with another robin who had the temerity to invade his territory.
