Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is Bookish Discoveries I Made in 2025. My list consists of authors I discovered for the first time last year. I’ve excluded debut authors since by definition they’re new to everyone! Links from the title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads (if I haven’t got around to writing one yet).
- Robert Seethaler – The Cafe With No Name
- Megan Hunter – Days of Light
- Damian Barr – The Two Roberts
- Alice Jolly – The Matchbox Girl
- Anita Franks – Small Acts of Resistance
- Georgia Hunter – One Good Thing
- Sarah Hall – Helm
- Taylor Jenkins Reid – Atmosphere
- Sarah Winman – Tin Man
- Caryl Phillips – Another Man in the Street
What bookish discoveries did you make in 2025?

Damien Barr was a new discovery for me, too. Pleased to see Robert Seethaler on your list.

Can heartily recommended The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins-Reid, if you’d like to read more by her.

Thanks for the recommendation, it’s one I’ve had on my wishlist for a while.

I didn’t read too many new to me authors last year.
One was a DNF.
2 Were autobiographical by Moon Unit Zappa and Geezer Butler so can’t really count.
The best was Vanessa Lillie with Blood Sisters. I read her new book this year. I also started the Stella Rimington spy series

I had to search quite hard to find ten. Clearly I don’t consciously seek out new authors, they just happen along!

Small Acts of Resistance has an interesting cover.

I’ve only read Taylor Jenkins Reid and Sarah Winman from your list, but not those particular books. I’ll have to try some of those other authors!

Taylor Jenkins Reid is so good! I couldn’t make it Atmosphere [just me] but I’ve loved the others.

Looks like a good list! I need to read more of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s work, I’ve enjoyed a couple, and liked them more than I expected. Hope you enjoy reading more of all these authors!

Did you have a favorite? I know, tough question.

Definitely a tough question. Both The Two Roberts and Helm are on the shortlist for the Winston Graham Historical Prize. I’m on the judging panel so I can’t choose a favourite at this stage! (Winner announced 12th March)

I do feel as though I should give Taylor Jenkins Reid a go! Maybe this year

This is the second list I see with Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’ll check her out.
I checked. I read 50 new-to-me writers in 2025. Many were memorable. I’d recommend Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, Berlin Poplars by Anne B Ragde, Too Old Women by Velma Wallis and the William Wisting series by Jørn Lier Horst

Wow, I haven’t read any of these authors! (Though I did watch Daisy Jones and the Six series? haha). Looks like a fun year of reading. My list is here if interested.
