Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Bookish Goals For 2025. I’m someone who likes setting themselves goals so this topic is perfect for me. Full disclosure: some of these may have appeared on last year’s post!
- Achieve my Goodreads goal of reading 104 books
- Read more of the books I already own, including:
- at least 20 books that have been in my TBR pile for longer than two years, i.e. January 2023 or prior
- the five remaining books on my Backlist Burrow list, a challenge I started in 2023 but have made little progress with
- Attend Henley Literary Festival and at least one other literary event
- Complete the When Are You Reading Challenge – see my sign-up post here – and Historical Fiction Reading Challenge – see my sign-up post here
- Complete the What’s in a Name Challenge – see my sign-up post here
- Read all the books on The Walter Scott Prize 2025 longlist before the shortlist is announced
- Reach the point where I’m read and reviewing every book on my NetGalley shelf in advance of publication
- Take part in a reading challenge I haven’t done before. Don’t know what yet!
- Finally bite the bullet and update my blog’s theme
- Embrace audiobooks and aim to listen to one per month
What bookish goals, if any, have you set for 2025?

Great goals Cathy. I enjoy audiobooks and use the Libby and Borrowbox library apps to listen for free. I don’t think my Netgalley shelf will ever get down below five. I keep getting tempted! There’s only 12 on it just now though so not too bad.

I think twelve is way better than ‘not too bad’. I’ve seen people saying they have hundreds on their shelves. Not sure how they keep getting approved.

Great list! I tried to visit your What’s in a Name Challenge signup post and it took me to my own WordPress to create a new post, just so you know. I love the 2025 prompts for that challenge!

I like aiming at reading 104 books rather than a straight-up 100. It adds a little give, I think.

I just made it two a week…

Audiobooks – now that’s a great idea. I’d forgotten that I have some old ones locked away (somewhere…), can definitely listen to them as I go about chores!

I very much hope it will be fun! My theme is so old it could be collecting its pension.

I need to read more books on my shelf for sure! I think I have improved on this through the years, but I could still be better. 🙂 I pretty much copy + paste my goals from year to years with updates thoughts under the headings; goes to show me I don’t change goals much. 😉 Hope you have fun updating your theme, too, and thanks for visiting my list!

I should read some books from the Walter Scott Prize list. You have an ambitious goal there, good luck!

Great goals, Cathy! I recommend asking your friends for their favorite audio narrators in genres you prefer, to help with the process! Or go back and search the TTT posts for the topic. Good luck with all your goals!

I’m trying to read more of my own books too, it’s just so silly how hard it is. New is always so tempting. So I’m rooting for you! Good luck on your goals!

And good luck with yours too. Perhaps we should all band together and ban authors from writing a new book for a year to give us a chance to catch up?

I share your goal of reading more books I own. I want to track my backlist reading and get to more of them this year. Good luck with your audiobook goal. I didn’t think I’d like audiobooks but I’ve come to love them. Good luck with your goals!

Thanks, I’m hoping to learn to love audiobooks too. I’ve seen people say they’re especially good for books with names that are difficult to pronounce!

Best of luck with all your goals! Hope you find a new challenge to complete.

That is a good list. I would like to do the historical fiction challenge, but I don’t think I could write reviews on all of the books I read. I may change my mind though.
I wish I could read 104 books in a year. In 2021 I read 105 books but have hovered around 90 books a year since.

For the historical fiction challenge, you could always do short reviews. There are no rules about how long they have to be.

I used to want nothing to do with audiobooks, but these days, I always have one going. Listening helps me get through tedious tasks like driving, housework, and exercise. I’m glad I finally embraced them. Good luckw ith all your goals!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Good Luck, Cathy. I think everyone wants to read more of their own books, that was on my list as well. I hope to read 26, one every two weeks, but I’m already behind.

I love audiobooks, but I was not always a fan of them. I think they are perfect when you want to multitask. I do a lot of cleaning/walking my dogs while listening. I hope you end up falling in love with the medium. Good luck with these!

I really like these goals. They feel attainable since they’re concrete, so I hope you get to them in 2025! Although I won’t hold it against you if you don’t update the theme for your blog – it seems so intimidating!

I definitely find the prospect of updating my theme rather terrifying but it’s well out of date and I think it’s becoming the source of a few problems.

Yikes! That’s the worst. I’m not jealous at all. I’m dreading the day that I need to update my own theme.

I’ve limited myself to just one challenge this year! As I’m just getting back into blogging and really need to tackle my bookshelves (physical and digital), I thought one would be manageable. Good luck with these!
