Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Bookish Brags (or Confessions). I’m concentrating on brags with a list of authors whom I’ve met in person at literary events or at recordings of Radio 4’s Bookclub programme. (Confession: most of these were very brief whilst getting my book signed.) Links from titles will take you to my review.
- Carol Klein, garden guru – her most recent book is a memoir, Hortobiography
- Susanna Clarke, author of Piranesi
- Graeme Macrae Burnet, author of His Bloody Project
- Donal Ryan, author of Heart, Be At Peace
- Robert Harris, author of Precipice
- James Naughtie, broadcaster and author of The Spy Across the Water
- David Suchet, actor and author of Behind the Lens
- Lucy Caldwell, author of These Days
- Clare Chambers, author of Small Pleasures
- Alan Johnson, author of Death on the Thames
Are there bookish things you want to brag about?

That’s so cool that you’ve met Susanna Clarke!! I got my book signed by Leigh Bardugo, who is one of my fav fantasy authors.

They’re usually lovely aren’t they? And when I hear an author talk about their book I often appreciate things in it I hadn’t clocked when I read it. I love finding out about their research and how they came up with the idea.

I collect authors the way kids in my day used to collect baseball bubble gum cards. Here’s my link to those I’ve met: https://www.pinterest.com/debnance/authors-i-ve-met/

I haven’t heard of most of these authors, but how fun that you got to meet them! I’ve met a few authors, although only one of them was a big favorite and that was just last month.
Happy TTT!

It’s awesome that you’ve met so many authors. I met a lot of authors when I was in graduate school for literature, but I mostly didn’t bother getting books signed. 🙂
