Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is a Halloween Freebie but I couldn’t think of anything that hadn’t been done before and probably better. Instead, inspired by a recent Instagram post, here are ten Portmanteau Word* Book Titles (*a word formed by combining two other words).
- Backcloth by Dirk Bogarde
- Archangel by Robert Harris
- Fatherland by Robert Harris
- Headlong by Michael Frayn
- Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks
- Sunwise by Helen Steadman
- Birthright by Charles Lambert
- Silverview by John le Carré
- Warlight by Michael Ondatje
- Winterkill by Ragnar Jónasson
How many can you find on your bookshelves? Quite a lot I bet…

Thanks to you – learnt all about Portmanteau Words today. “Sunwise” seems particularly insightful

I had never heard this word before, but it was cool for a post idea! You should recommend it to TTT! Happy Halloween!

I’ve never heard the term “portmanteau words” – it’s so much prettier than what I call them: compound words. These are really intriguing ones, too!
Happy TTT!

I can’t remember where – or when – I came across the terms but I would have called them compound words as well up to then

Brilliant idea!
I have heard about several here but have not read them. The last title I read that would fit here is Yellowface: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5804423662
