Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Atmospheric Books.
Houston, we have a problem . . .
My list is books that have literally no atmosphere – because they’re set in outer space or on other planets!
- Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar
- The Things We Learn When We’re Dead by Charlie Laidlaw
- The Martian by Andy Weir
- The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
- The First Men in the Moon by H. G. Wells
- Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
- 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke
- Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Very clever!

Like you, I was a bit stumped by the topic hence I took an ‘easier’ route… thanks to Goodreads lists!

I haven’t read any of these yet. They do look like they would fit well.

So many of these are favorites! Dune was one of my father’s favorite books. I remember him reading it often.

I remember reading the whole series years ago. I’m never surprised to see a Kate Morton book on a list of atmospheric locations.

While these books tell stories outside our atmosphere, it doesn’t mean they aren’t atmospheric!

Very true. And I could have had The Apollo Murders on my list if I’d thought of it…

What a fun twist on the topic! I’m not much for sci-fi, so I don’t read a lot of books set in space. I did really like PROJECT HAIL MARY, though, and there’s a sweet middle-grade book I love called THE LION OF MARS. It’s more about relationships than about space, but still, it’s a great one.
Happy TTT!

I don’t read a lot either (I’ve only read two on my list) but I was stuck for inspiration – or too lazy – to go with the ‘official’ topic! You did much better.

I have 2001 A Space Odyssey on my list too.

I had a problem with this prompt, so I skipped this week. You had such a clever solution, bravo!
I have read a bunch of these. I was very unexpectedly impressed by The First Men in the Moon
