Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Characters from Different Books Who Should Team Up, a topic suggested by Cathy at What Cathy Read Next. Wait a minute, that’s me! I felt obliged to make an extra effort with this one so have come up with characters I think would make great crime-fighting partnerships.
- Sherlock Holmes and Christopher John Francis Boone from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, who together should be able to solve the mystery in ‘The Adventure of Silver Blaze’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Dr John Watson and Anthony Horowitz’s Anthony Horowitz from the The Word is Murder – two literary sidekicks probably keen to take centre stage
- Colin Dexter’s Endeavour Morse and Dorothy L. Sayer’s Lord Peter Wimsey who, both being Oxford University men, should be able to solve the latest murder to take place in ‘the city of dreaming spires’
- Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Alexander McCall Smith’s Mma Ramotswe, both expert observers of village life and of the clues that will solve a crime
- I think J. K. Rowling’s Hermione Grainger and Cormoran Strike would be magic together
- Agatha Christie’s famously fastidious Belgian detective Hercule Poirot and Roger Hargreaves’ Little Miss Tidy I’m confident would clear up the messiest of mysteries
- Ian Fleming’s James Bond and Lee Child’s Jack Reacher were surely born to take on the world’s baddies together and, if not, they could always challenge each other to a cage fight ala Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk
- Sir Ian Rankin’s John Rebus and Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander who, if they couldn’t solve the case, could at least drown their sorrows together
- Edgar Allan Poe’s C. Auguste Dupin and Wilkie Collins’ Sergeant Cuff who, having apprehended the culprit, could discuss which of them was the first fictional detective
- And finally, in the event you find yourself accused of a crime, Mr Jaggers from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Sir Wilfrid Robarts from Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie would make a formidable defence team
What fictional dream teams did you come up with?

I didn’t take part this week but your pairings are great. I particularly like the thought of Poirot and Little Miss Tidy!
Well done on getting your suggestion selected!

Thanks. There seemed to be a split this week between those who thought it was a fun topic and those who simply scratched their head and did something different. Having said that, I’ve done a fair bit of the latter with some topics.

Great picks (and fun topic!) I had trouble with this one, but ended up pulling together a list of characters from different books who might, at least, be friends. I was nowhere near as organized with you about why they would make good crossover pairings, though!

Took me way longer and more thinking to come up with my list than it did to come up with the topic!

I did not have the mental capacity for this one today. I think everyone who did it should get kudos because it took a lot of thought to come up with pairings. Enjoy the rest of your week!

How interesting you put James Bond and Jack Reacher together, as that pairing came up in a conversation with my husband over the weekend. While I know very little about Reacher, I am pretty familiar with Mr. Bond! 😉

This is such a fun topic! Unfortunately, my aging brain just wasn’t up to the task. LOL. I’m familiar with some of these characters, but not most of them. From the sounds of it, though, they would do very well together.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

This was definitely a topic that made me think a lot so kudos for that, it was hard but ended up being really fun to think of what characters would go well together. The whole idea of an author writing a fictional version of themselves as a character is definitely an intriguing one….

I see we both have Sherlock Holmes on our list. Wouldn’t be fun if he was teamed up with another detective who used more modern techniques?

Yes! Modern forensics vs his detective instincts – I wonder who’d win out?
