Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
We’re left to come up with our own topic this week so I’ve chosen to focus on books that feature couples – friends, lovers, siblings, even works of art. Links from each title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads.
Thea and Denise by Caroline Bond – Two women. An open road. The trip of a lifetime.
Eagle & Crane by Suzanne Rindell – Two young aerial stuntmen unlock long-held family secrets during the US internment of Japanese citizens in World War II.
Byron and Shelley by Glen Harbittle (due for publication October 2023) – A collection of short stories featuring characters caught in significant moments in life
Ike and Kay by James MacManus – A fictionalized account of the real life relationship between General Dwight Eisenhower and Kay Summersby.
Molly & the Captain by Anthony Quinn – A celebrated artist of the Georgian era paints his two young daughters. The portrait, known as “Molly & the Captain”, becomes instantly famous, its fate destined to echo down the centuries, touching many lives.
Kezia and Rosie by Rebecca Burns – A collection of linked short stories told from the perspective of seven-year old Kezia who, along with her sister, is sent to live with her grandparents for reasons she can’t initially understand
The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton – An idol of Afro-punk. A duo on the brink of stardom. A night that will define their story for ever.
Birdie & Jude by Phyllis H. Moore – Birdie offers Jude, a stranger, shelter from an approaching hurricane and in doing so forms a bond that will change their lives forever.
Louis & Louise by Julie Cohen – Louis and Louise are the same person born in two different lives. They are separated only by the sex announced by the doctor and a final ‘e’.
Juliet & Romeo by David Hewson – Shakespeare’s well-known play turned into a gripping romantic thriller with Juliet as the focus of the narrative.

Books about couples is a great idea for a list, and all of these are new-to-me. Lovely.

THAT is a great idea because I often to struggle to come up with topics for freebie weeks. ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ don’t they say?

Okay, I’m going to check out Louis & Louise. That description is making me think of The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells now.

Fun topic! I love it. I haven’t read any of these, but I do love a good friendship novel. I’ll have to check some of these out.
Happy TTT!

This is a cool idea for a list! A few years ago, I read a book called Vincent & Theo. It’s about brothers.

I suspect there are quite a few but I wanted to stick to ones I’d read

I love this idea! It is so fun! I wonder if everyone did it how many different couples/names we could come up with. The one that came to my mind immediately was Emmy & Oliver.

I probably could have come up with more but I tried to stick to ones I’d read (with one exception)

Oh, great topic for a post. There’s a reading challenge prompt this year to read a book with the word “and” in the title, and it was WILD how long it took for one to come up organically in the course of my reading (over 50 books!). A lot of these look really good.
Which reminds me — I just picked up one that matches this theme, about a girl training a foster dog: Lila & Hadley by Kody Keplinger.
