Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
To mark the fact today is Independence Day in the US, this week’s topic is Book Covers in the Colours of my Country’s Flag. The colours of the United Kingdom flag are red, white and blue which made it pretty simple to grab some paperbacks off my bookshelf. And I even managed to sneak in a reference to my nation with the last book.
Since they’ve not been despatched to the charity shop, they’re all books I can recommend. Links from the title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads.

- The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
- Blasted Things by Lesley Glaister
- Nick by Michael Farris Smith
- The Hidden Child by Louise Fein
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
- Three Words for Goodbye by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb
- Devils and Saints by Jean-Baptiste Andrea
- The Redeemed by Tim Pears
- The Smallest Man by Frances Quinn
- The Englishman by David Gilman

I like how your red white and blue look together!

Nice! So many countries have those colours in their flags. I hadn’t really thought about it before. 🙂
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

Interesting that so many countries—UK, USA, France, I can think of right away—chose red, white, and blue for their colors.

Me too, especially The Hidden Child as I have epilepsy (thankfully controlled with medication) so the subject matter spoke to me.

I’ve not read any of these but they all have very pretty covers! Love the little poppy on the cover of Blasted Things.

I’m not feeling very patriotic about either of the countries where I’m a citizen, but I can get behind this one!
