Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Things Getting in the Way of Reading, an idea originated by A Cocoon of Books. Here are some of my mine, with some suitable books to accompany them:
Tending my garden – The Call of the Wild by Jack London
Writing reviews – Collins English Thesaurus
Maintaining marital harmony – How it Works: The Husband by Jason A. Hazeley
Trying to decide what book to read next – In Two Minds by Alis Hawkins followed by The Chosen by Elizabeth Lowry
Putting together book lists for challenges – The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams
Cultural and literary events – Improvement by Joan Silber
Visitors – The Unexpected Guest by Agatha Christie
Sleeping – Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau
Household tasks – The Unrelenting Struggle by Winston Churchill
Social media – In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust
What things get in the way of your reading?

Love how you came up with a list of books to go along with your obstacles.

Household tasks take up a lot of time for sure. Sometimes I listen to audiobooks while I clean. 🙂

I’ve never mastered the art of multitasking and my housework time would get me through more than a couple of chapters!

Hahahah, I like your spin, especially Churchill and Proust’s contributions. 🙂 My list is here.

Part of it tried to fall this morning, but I steadied it with one hand while pulling out the book with the other!

I like that little added bit, Cathy. Marital Harmony is a great one. When my husband was alive I didn’t read nearly the same amount because we did a lot of stuff together.

I try not to look annoyed if my husband says something to me while I’m reading – at least the first few times! However I also like occasions when we’re both sat reading so I can completely understand how this would be something you miss.

Finding the copy of The Unrelenting Struggle amongst my husband’s books gave me the most pleasure. However given my housework failings I did have to dust it before taking picture!

And we have pretty much the same list. I’m retired and in theory have unlimited time to read but as my husband often says, how did we ever find the time to go to work?

I love your twist on the topic! Writing reviews does take a ton of time away from actually reading books.

Thinking about what on earth to write in a review as well!
