This week’s topic is Series I’d Like to Start/Catch up on/Finish. My list includes ones where I’ve read several but not all of the books in a series. The majority are historical crime series. As you’ll see I have a habit of discovering series part way through. The books I’ve read are shown in bold, with links to my review if I reviewed them on my blog.

Are you a ‘completer/finisher’ when it comes to series? Is it worth going back to the beginning of a series if you’ve read later books?

  1. Of these, the only one I know and have read – completely – is the Shardlake. I don’t know that I read series as such. Sure, books that have the same main protagonists, like some detective novels, but they’re usually stand-alones.

  4. Oh wow, these are all new to me I think! I read series pretty slowly usually. Even If I’m enjoying the world, I don’t like to read it back to back a lot. I have no idea why lol

  10. I love reading books in a series and I ALWAYS read them in order. I can’t do it any other way! My problem is that I forget who’s who and what’s what between books and then I feel like I have to go back and re-read the previous books before I can continue with the series. I don’t love re-reading, so that’s hard for me.

    I haven’t read any of the series on your list, although I have read the first Maisie Dobbs book. I enjoyed it but never moved on with the series. I need to. Good luck with that series and all the rest on your list!

    1. I would love to read series in order! It just never seems to work out that way… However, I’m planning to look out for earlier books in some of these series in secondhand bookshops and “stockpile” them ready to read from the beginning once I’ve got the whole collections. This could be an endeavour that takes a lifetime…

  11. I’ve read the first two Maisie Dobbs books, and just picked up a used copy of the third one. I’ll only keep up with them if I can find low priced used copies, though.
