I read seven books in October which makes it a relatively slow reading month for me. Links from each title will take you to my review or the book description on Goodreads if I haven’t got around to writing the review yet! You can find a list of all the books I’ve read so far in 2022 here. If we’re not already friends on Goodreads, send me a friend request or follow my reviews.
The House of Birds by Morgan McCarthy (Tinder Press) – an enthralling dual time story that is romantic without being sentimental and with some really clever touches.
The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho by Paterson Joseph (Dialogue Books ) – fictionalised biography of 18th century pioneer Charles Ignatius Sancho. In the words of the author, “A hero. A man. An African. An Artist. Erudite. Wise. Grand. Flawed”.
Rivals of the Republic by Annelise Freisenbruch (Duckworth) – an intriguing historical crime mystery set in 70BC Rome with a resourceful female protagonist.
Squire’s Hazard by Carolyn Hughes (Riverdown Books) – a welcome return to 14th century Hampshire and the lives of the residents of Meonbridge.
Molly & the Captain by Anthony Quinn (Abacus) – a skilfully crafted novel comprising three different timelines, impressive in its scope and with some wonderfully drawn characters.
What were your favourite books last month? Have you read any of my picks?

I have The House of Birds on my TBR pile so I’m really pleased to hear you enjoyed it so much.
My favourite reads in October were The Lighthouse Witches by C.J. Cooke, Keep it in the Family by John Marrs and Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan.
