Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post. Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists. Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Places In Books I’d Love to Live. Forget fictional places, here are some authors’ houses I’d have loved to live in. Follow the links to view more pictures, find out about the history of the houses or, where they are open to the public – in normal times, that is – plan your visit.
Daphne du Maurier – Ferryside, Bodinnick, Cornwall
Agatha Christie – Greenway, Devon
Jane Austen – Chawton, Alton, Hampshire
Thomas Hardy – Max Gate, Dorchester, Dorset
Henry James – Lamb House, Rye, East Sussex
Ian Fleming – GoldenEye, Oracabessa Bay, Jamaica
Noel Coward – Firefly, Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Sir Walter Scott – Abbotsford, Melrose, Scotland
Virginia Woolf – Monk’s House, Lewes, East Sussex
And last, but definitely not least…
John Buchan – Elsfield Manor, Oxfordshire – because just look at that library!

I’m liking Greenway. If only that lottery win would come through!

I’m going to make you jealous now because not only have I visited Jamaica but while I was there I took an excursion to Firefly and was able to look around Noel Coward’s home.

Such a wonderful idea, and so much more plausible! Definitely yes to the homes of Christie, Maurier, Austen and Scott. The rest, I’ll have to check out their residences — thanks for including the links! ~Lex

What a great take on this week’s top ten, Cathy. I googled Firefly Estate and oh yes, I would love to spend time there, but of course Elsfield Manor looks amazing as well.

I’ve been to Ocho Rios and it’s definitely a nice-to-visit-wouldn’t-want-to-live-there kind of place for me! The English countryside, though? Sign me up!
Happy TTT!

Jane Austen’s house. Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key West, Florida. Anne Rice’s house of horrors in New Orleans. So many!

Ooh, I forgot about Ernest Hemingway. I went to Key West once (a stop on a cruise) but only got as close as standing outside his house.
