Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post. Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists. Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Characters I’d Name a Pet After. I decided to let authors do the work this week so my list is made up of ten pets who appear in literature.
- Flush, Elizabeth Barratt Browning’s cocker spaniel in Flush by Virginia Woolf
- Dorothy’s canine companion, Toto in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
- Long John Silver’s parrot, Captain Flint in Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
- Fox terrier, Bob in Dumb Witness by Agatha Christie
- Nana, the Newfoundland, in Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
- Pongo and Missis in The Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith
- Pilot, Mr. Rochester’s dog in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
- Cat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
- Jasper, the spaniel in Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Before I was married I had a few kitties named Cat, Wife needs to name them. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/11/ttt-111720.html

Some very unusual names on your list. No problem with lots of dogs answering to those in the park 😀

Ever since I’ve read Dumb Witness and “met’ Bob, I’ve wanted a wire-hair Terrier. But we have way too many pets already. 6 is enough for one household.
All of them, except one, is named after famous or bookish characters. Here’s our TTT: I was named after

Very neat! I’d completely forgotten about most of these buddies, including Jasper, Pilot and Captain Flint.
Excellent idea to let the authors do the work, haha. Have done the same this TTT (https://lexlingua.co/book-famous-animals-for-top-ten-tuesday/)

I love 101 Dalmatians, I was obsessed with the Disney film when I was a kid (the one with the real dalmatians not the animated one, though I liked the animated one too).

Flint is definitely a name I would give to a cat of mine.

So many wonderful classics here. When I was a kid, I really wanted a dog named Toto. Now I’ve ‘settled’ for a menagerie of non-literary cats.
