Most of the books I buy fall into one of three categories: new books by authors whose previous books I’ve read and enjoyed, books nominated for literary prizes such as The Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction or books bought on the strength of reviews by book bloggers I follow. With the exception of Hamnet, all of the books listed below are in my TBR pile so links from the titles will take you to the book description on Goodreads.

The cover of The Foundling was one of the reasons I decided to treat myself to the hardcover rather than ebook version. I’m always attracted by beautiful covers but the book would have to sound as if I’d enjoy it to make me purchase.

Haha, I wish! In a good year I’d hope to have read some of the longlisted books already. Not so those year as I’ve only read Once Upon A River and it didn’t make the shortlist. Realistically I’ll be lucky if I can manage to read the shortlisted books before the winner is announced mid-June, especially as I don’t yet own copies of some of them! However, I always add all the longlisted books to my To Read shelf on Goodreads and hope I’ll get to the someday 😁 Have you read any of them or are you planning to?

You nailed two of the biggest reasons I pick up a book—liking the author’s previous work and a rave review. If someone whose reading tastes jive with mine recommends a book, I’ll definitely pick it up.
