Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists. Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Changes In My Reading Life. The main change in my reading life in the past few years has been starting this blog and it has brought about quite a few changes in my reading habits.
- I take notes as I read (or use the highlighting facility on my Kindle) to make it easier when I come to write reviews
- Getting involved in blog tours has exposed me to new authors, including self-published authors, that I wouldn’t otherwise have come across
- I now have access to advance reading copies via NetGalley or direct from publishers
- I’ve learned lots about social media, especially Twitter and Instagram which I’d never used before
- I’ve been introduced to the wonderful online book community and enjoyed interacting with other book lovers from all over the world
- I’ve learned I have a thing called a TBR pile…and it’s grown
- I now create a monthly reading schedule so I don’t miss blog tour dates or other review commitments
- I’m constantly adding books to my wishlist or TBR pile through reading the fabulous reviews of other book bloggers
- I’m reading more books than I did before (but not enough to keep up with number 8!)
- I’ve ventured into the world of audiobooks
What changes have taken place in your reading life?

Several of these apply to me too, Cathy. I make almost completely illegible notes which seem to do the trick in making points stick in my memory! I also read more books from small presses and more fiction in translation. All in all the book blogging world is an absolute delight!

Oh, you’re lucky! I actually read fewer books since I started blogging because I use some of my reading time blogging! It’s a tricky balancing act… 😉

I’m fortunate that starting blogging coincided with giving up work so in fact it has served to fill time with something worthwhile and enjoyable.

We have a lot of reading changes similar to yours like venturing into audiobooks, letting my TBR grow into something monstrous, connecting with other readers, being recommended so may books and reading a lot more than before. I definitely admire taking notes on books as you read, since I find that quite difficult. Somehow I always manage to forget to take notes or have trouble staying into the story if I keep stopping to take notes! In my TTT list I talked more about what I learned about my reading tastes in the past few years.

My tbr is huge too! No matter how much I read, there are always more books to add to it. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

No longer seeing the attraction of long books could have been on my list as well.

I take notes while reading, too. It makes writing reviews so much easier.

Yes, sometimes thoughts about phrases for my review pop into my head when I’m reading and if I don’t write them down I know I won’t remember them later!

If it wasn’t for book blogging, I would not be on most social media platforms and would be confused by them (I mean, more confused, haha).

I hadn’t thought about NetGalley being a change, but it’s actually a big one!

I love the book community, and had no idea it even existed before I started blogging! Same with social media, really- I’d never been on Twitter, knew nothing about Goodreads, etc. It’s been eye opening! 🙂
I take notes now too, something I never did.

You have lots of things in here that I’m still learning to add to my reading life. I definitely need to start creating and following a monthly reading schedule. I think it would be so helpful to keep me on track. Great post!

I love the book community, be it blogging or instagram or Goodreads. I love how positive and encouraging most people are. And yes, my TBR pile is out of control. 😉
